About
Film, research and visual practice.
I am a Romanian documentary filmmaker, visual artist and researcher based in Bucharest.

I work between documentary cinema, social research and visual art, focusing on political culture, gender, youth, memory and the ways institutions shape intimate life.
I hold a PhD in Political Science from Université Paris Nanterre and studied media and communication in Lyon. I teach at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, University of Bucharest, and contribute to European research on women, work, bodies and visibility.
I directed Vis.Viață / Imaginary Youth, a feature documentary following Romanian teenagers across the transition from high school into adulthood. I previously co-directed Portavoce, on Romanian protest culture, and I am currently developing I AM EVERY WOMAN, a hybrid animated documentary co-directed with Maria Stanisheva, as well as Love / Porn.
My visual and performative practice includes Not This Baby in My Belly, the presentation of Portavoce in the international group exhibition Notes from Underground at /SAC @ Malmaison (2025), and participation in Horror Vacui (2025), the 168-hour durational performance on abandonment at Galateca.
My academic publications may also appear under the name Ruxandra Gubernat-Rammelt.
Approach
Personal material is never separate from political structures.
My practice begins with lived experience but refuses to reduce it to confession.
I treat archives, interviews, observation, animation and research as different forms of evidence. I am not interested in illustrating theory, but in making visible how history and power settle into gestures, expectations, bodies and relationships.
